Yometa combines Google, Yahoo and Bing for ‘visual search engine’

April 21, 2011

Yometa has launched a visual search engine, designed to provide searchers with the most relevant results from the most popular search engines.

The rationale behind Yometa.com is to give easy accessibility to the most relevant internet search results, based on the combination of website rankings by the top 3 search engines – Google, Bing and Yahoo. Yometa.com presents these results in a visually compelling, transparent way that simultaneously illustrates how they rank on the three leading search engines.
It is a common misconception that search engines deliver the same information – the reality is that the three largest search engines have a total disparity when it comes to results.
In fact, there is only a 3% overlap in search results between them for the top 100 search terms. This means 97% of the results on the three engines are totally different.
Sri, Yometa.com’s Proprietor explains: “If you are looking for the most important website related to your search, you could miss it completely if your search is limited to a single search engine. It is imperative that you survey all three. But up to now it has been difficult and time-consuming to navigate all three engines, or to wade through sets of meta search results when they are presented in a linear or sequential manner”.
He continues: “Our vision at Yometa.com was to create a search engine that is visual rather than textual, and allows users to interact with web search results differently. Showing this in a non-linear, visual manner on Yometa.com, is a far more effective and user-friendly way to present meta search information. It is more compatible with the way that our brains process such information, and has three main benefits over conventional search engines –
1) A time saving utility allowing users to search Google, Yahoo and Bing at the same time on one screen.
2) Its novel visual interface is aesthetically easy on the eye and permits users to view any combination of results from Google, Yahoo and Bing.
3) The Yometa.com algorithm determines relevance, with the results closer to the middle being more relevant.
Sri adds: “It is also important to emphasise that using the Yometa.com Internet Search requires no extra software or plugin to be installed. You can get started straight away, by just typing in a keyword, with instant access to our visual result pages. You can use the criteria and parameters that are best for you i.e. select a visualization type, re-arrange your results, sort them by date, relevance etc.”
