Capablue debuts video-on-demand platform for web connected TVs

August 11, 2010

Web TV agency Capablue has struck a partnership with online video platform Brightcove and TV Genius, to implement ‘Connected’, a customisable portal platform for multiple devices and content platforms.

Connected is a platform for the rapid development and deployment of video sites to TVs. It delivers a managed solution for content owners to provide a VoD service with content discovery and delivery solutions.
Capablue is working in partnership with Brightcove and TV Genius to integrate Connected with their video, recommendation and personalization platforms.
The platform will be complete in time for launch and demonstration at IBC in September.
“The demand for VoD solutions on multiple platforms is increasing but the problem has always been one of cost and time. Companies have to build their systems which is a long and painful process,” said Tom Cape, managing director, Capablue. “Connected has been developed as the solution to this problem. It simply integrates with a user’s own platform and it’s ready to go. We are delighted to be working in partnership with Brightcove and TV Genius. Their expertise in online video, EPGs and search across multiple platforms will ensure that Connected will be a seamless solution for content owners and distributors.”
The Connected platform supports rapid and cost-effective implementation of bespoke VoD sites – designed specifically for the client. The sites delivered have a high quality discovery interface which is easy to use and navigate. Viewers can personalise the sites based on their preferences to get quick access to the content they want.
The solution has been designed using the partners’ expertise, to deliver greater customer satisfaction and increased content consumption. Connected will also enable clients to monetise their service through a combination of advertising and micro-payments for pay per view (PPV) and subscription.
“With on-demand viewing on the rise, and with a whole range of devices now available on which to consume video content, consumers are increasingly demanding more personalised services that are relevant to them,” said Tom Weiss, CEO, TV Genius. “Our Content Discovery Platform enables viewers to search for video on any device, as well as receive intelligent recommendations that enable them to discover programming that is genuinely relevant to their viewing habits or interests. We’re pleased to be part of this exciting deployment with Capablue to help give viewers access to the content they want to watch, on any device.”
Connected will be able to support all UK and European connected TV platform and standards, including Samsung, Sony, Yahoo!, Canvas and HbbTV.
One single solution for broadcasters covering all TV platforms, Connected will also cover the more established mobile and PC site solutions.
Cameron Church, EMEA technical director at Brightcove said: “The growth of Connected TVs has introduced a host of exciting new possibilities for Brightcove customers to expand audience reach and grow their online communities. We’re proud to support the launch of Connected, as it will enable publishers across all industries to take advantage of this fast-growing distribution opportunity.”
