Frozen-mania peaks as parents search for must-have toys

December 11, 2014

“Frozen” has topped a list of the most searched for children’s toys this Christmas, according to new research.

The study, from search agency Greenlight gives an indication as to which toys parents are most desperate to get their hands on this Christmas.
Greenlight discovered that Frozen toys are the most searched for, racking up the highest volume of searches online. After grossing $1.2 billion at the box office globally and selling over one million copies of its soundtrack, it is clear Frozen has the cool factor for children.
Foam toy maker Nerf has bagged the number two spot in the search league table. With foam bullets and pump-fire missiles, this battle-blaster is reigning high on stocking lists. Celebrating her 10th birthday this year, star of the preschool animated television series, Peppa Pig, comes in a close third. Peppa is set to top £640 million in revenues from branded accessories.
Film and TV favourites including Fireman Sam, Toy Story and Star Wars also rank highly on the top 10 list, while the appearance of learning toy maker Vtech, suggests that many parents are hoping to give their kids an advantage at school before the new term begins.
“It’s Frozen-mania this Christmas as parents search high and low for this year’s must-have toys. As festive shopping reaches fever pitch, Frozen toys are topping wish-lists for children across the nation,” said Andreas Pouros, co-founder and COO at Greenlight. “And it’s not just unrelenting choruses of “Let It Go” from children that will persuade parents to buys these goodies. This year sees pester-power scale new heights as retailers employ data insights to target parents with personalised recommendations online and on mobile, helping to drive searches and sales of toys and other gifts this Christmas.”
Greenlight used its own data revealing average monthly searches for children’s toys referencing a brand name, during the period of September – October 2014.
