Great recommendations here. If I could add just one book to this list it would be a recent one from David Silverstein called One Dot, Two Dots, Get Some New Dots http://www.davesdots.com/
I found that book so helpful and very easy to read. It lists some excellent techniques for gathering information (dots) and preparing yourself well for projects and tasks. Very well written little book.
