RealPlayer aims to become ‘Dropbox for Videos’

February 26, 2014

Digital media firm RealPlayer has launched its cloud service globally, aimed at offering a ‘Dropbox-style’ experience for videos.

With apps on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows 8, Kindle Fire, Roku and Chromecast, RealPlayer Cloud describes itself as the “Dropbox for video”.
RealPlayer Cloud lets users upload a video to their private online locker in a one-click process, then gives you a link to share with people who can then view the video whether they have a RealPlayer Cloud account or not.
The RealPlayer Cloud uses SurePlay tech to automatically format videos to fit the device type, size of screen, available bandwidth and storage space of whatever you’re using.
Each account comes with 2GB of free storage –and users can subscribe for more space (prices start at $4.99/month) or they can refer friends to get an extra 1GB of space for everyone you sign up.
Users can also plug into RealPlayer’s legacy features, including the ability to download YouTube videos and upload them to the Cloud for later private or offline viewing.
