Joshua Schachter, the creator of Delicious, has launched Jig, a social media site that lets people post and respond to ‘Want ads’.
The site acts in a similar way to Twitter, but instead of posting about what you are doing, you post about what you need.
Then other people reply with suggestions, ideas, answers, help, or presumably commercial products and services that can meet your need.
Want ads are the inverse of classified ads, where instead of offering something, you ask for something.
The site has some similarities to Quora, but it’s not just about questions and answers – it’s about getting help with any kind of need.

We run a similar service via Twitter via @iamlookingfora – if you follow that thread – you can ask questions and people respond and share. Twitter is a perfect platform for capturing conversations – and requests – and so it will be interesting to see how a dedicated site pans out…
