June 12, 2014

Blippar has reportedly bought Layar as the two firms look to join forces in the growing augmented reality market.

Digital news site TechCrunch cites a leaked internal memo written by Qualcomm-backed Blippar co-founder and CEO Ambarish Mitra as evidence of the deal, but so far both companies have declines to comment on the report.
The memo names 19 June as the planned date for the official announcement, according to the report.
Via smartphones and other devices, both apps overlay physical objects such as magazines, posters or product packaging with virtual content when scanned, and both offer brands and publisher a choice between full-service creation of campaign or a self-service tool.
Recently,Blippar announced its first ‘true augmented reality game’ for Google Glass. CEO, Rish Mitra also revealed a new gaming platform called Games for Glass.
The platform was presented at the Augmented World Expo. To access it, users open the Blippar app which triggers a virtual interface that they can interact with both via their hands and the Google Glass headset itself.
