XING mobile app let users ‘handshake’ local contacts via GPS

October 15, 2010

Business network XING has revamped its iPhone and BlackBerry apps available for free download, with a number of new features such as the Mobile Handshake, where business professionals can meet up and add one another as a XING contact.

The app uses GPS to search for other XING members nearby who also have the Mobile Handshake feature enabled, which will let the user select the person they want to add from the list of results.
The iPhone app also provides XING users with a list of their contacts’ upcoming birthdays so they can wish them all the best while on the move.
Dr. Thilo Horstmann, VP Product at XING, added a little background information about the upcoming apps, saying that “The launch of our product offensive this fall is part of our mission to offer tech-savvy users enhanced and more comprehensive mobile products.
“Over the last few months we carried out a range of different studies and usability tests among users to determine how best to design the iPhone app. This in turn provides us with a sound basis for improving our mobile products in the future.”
