Lego Universe offers free trial of virtual world for kids

June 24, 2011

The Lego Group has announced the creation of a “free-to-play” zone inside Lego Universe coming in August, giving players a taste of what the Lego Universe massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) has to offer.

While players will be restricted to this free-to-play zone within the game, players will still be able to try out a limited selection of gameplay without a time limit.
If players like what they see in the free-to-play zone they can pay $10 per month to subscribe and gain access to the full game, which includes the adventure zones and property worlds.
While many MMO titles are going ‘free-to-play,’ for the time being Lego Universe isn’t heading in that direction.
Instead, for the time being Lego will continue with their monthly fee approach, but ramp up the marketing to get people to try it with the free-to-play zone strategy.
Lego is hopeful that if players try it, they will be able to convert a number of these players into subscribers.
