Top Facebook trends of 2016: Politics, celeb deaths and the Olympics

The US Presidential Election was the most popular topic among Global Facebook users this year, discussed more than Pokémon Go, Brexit and the Olympics.

Facebook also revealed the list of the most-watched live videos in 2016, which shed further light on the social network’s widely-reported problem with hoaxes and fake news.

The world’s most popular live video was Candace Payne’s “Chewbacca Mom”, which had 162 million views, almost double the next most-popular video, of musician Ted Yoder playing Tears for Fears “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” on the hammered dulcimer.

The most talked about global topics in Facebook’s 2016 Year in Review:

5. Rodrigo Duterte & Philippine Presidential Election

For the first time, Facebook also shared a list of the top ten global Live videos:
