Google White Paper: Choosing the right path for a successful mobile launch

February 23, 2016

Google Transformation Experts has issued a White Paper focused on how brands should choose the right product, design and development path for a successful mobile launch.

The educational whitepaper is aimed at helping brands to choose the right path when designing and developing mobile tech and apps.

Below are some of the key findings:

· Design

o We view and touch screens differently. 49% use one thumb, 36% use index finger & 15% use two thumbs – this shows natural active areas for each consumer group.

o Responsive design is key – 74% of mobile sites use a responsive design, which allows flexibility, one code set and fluid images.

· Product:

o Mobile Websites and WebApps capture the most casual sales from search and social but least service and engagement

o Native Apps / Hybrid Apps develop the most repeat sales, service/retention and engagement of consumers

o Widgets and notifications show the best results for re-engagement – surface content and make consumer interact

· Development

o Biggest thing that prevents mobile developers using HTML5 is performance issues and limited access to hardware API’s

· Google’s new performance model RAIL (Response, Animation, Idle, Load) integrates all aspects of performance problems and integration to keep a consumer happy through their journey.
