Oral-B ‘smart mirror’ shows the news while you brush

March 10, 2015

Oral-B has updated its smart toothbrush with a mirror that can display digital information, so people can view content as they brush their teeth.

The oral hygiene brand will let third party developers to create apps for the toothbrush and mirror.

Presenting the innovation at the Mobile World Congress, Oral-B showcased the multiple uses for their different clientele.

For children, the mirror shows a story of animated images, if they brush correctly. In order to make sure they learn good cleaning techniques, the mirror will show a monster on screen if they do not brush correctly.

For adults, the mirror has a program where weather, new headlines, travel updates, and a timer appear to better incorporate it into their daily routine.

The SmartSeries 7000 syncs with an app to guide and monitor your mouth-cleaning progress. Setting goals on a personalised “dental care journey”:

• Users can select among five journeys: Fresh Breath, Plaque Fighter, Whitening, Gum Health or Ortho Care

• Each journey is tailor-made to help users’ achieve their oral care goals, including whiter teeth for an upcoming wedding, or fresh breath for food lovers.

• The journeys deliver a more active and engaged brushing routine for a pre-designated period of time, and also offer recommendations for corresponding products to match each journey.

A red light indicates if they are brushing too hard and warn them to give their gums a break.

The Oral-B app also aims to entertain users during each two-minute-session by displaying weather, news, personal information and scenic picture slideshows sourced from National Geographic to the mirror.

Panasonic, Nordstrom, and Toshiba all have smart mirrors coming out in the near future.
