Right to reply: Can Twitter’s ‘Buy it Now’ button match customer expectations?

September 11, 2014

This week saw Twitter enter the world of e-commerce with a new ‘buy’ button- a new function that will sit inside a tweet and allow users to purchase an item directly from that message. Neil Kinson, vice president EMEA, Redwood Software looks at how process automation will be the key for Twitter to ensure a fast and convenient service for new customers.

It should come as no surprise that Twitter, like many other online platforms, is embracing the possibilities of e-commerce. But with this new service comes news challenges.
As part of its tests for this new service, Twitter must ensure that seamless process automation between back-end and front-end processes is fully implemented. Process automation gives retailers the impeccable back-office activities needed for accurate inventory tracking and partner coordination together with fast ordering, purchasing and shipping processes.
If customers are to experience a hassle-free shop with Twitter’s ‘buy button’, tightly automated processes will be key- it’s the only way to ensure fast and consistent services to keep the customer happy.
Automation should be the lifeblood of any new retail technology -all retailers should be wary of entering the exciting world of e-commerce without the necessary, streamlined processes in place.”
