Amaze and OnAir bring World Cup matches inflight

June 23, 2014

Inflight connectivity services OnAir has teamed up with digital marketing, technology and commerce consultancy, Amaze, to deliver an inflight ‘World Cup zone’ accessible via onboard Wi-Fi on selected aircraft.

The OnAir web portal is free and the World Cup microsite, which is now live, offers passengers the opportunity to view live results of matches, as they happen, via their own portable electronic devices (PEDs).
OnAir appointed Amaze, in March 2014, following a competitive three-way pitch to implement a digital strategy, incorporating the development of digital programmes of activity and the roll out of targeted social media campaigns. Content generation across all platforms is key in order to drive awareness of connectivity services to prospective partnership airlines, with The World Cup zone showcasing how the technical challenges of streaming information inflight can be overcome.
OnAir was named as Best Connectivity Provider at the inaugural Inflight IFEC Awards earlier this year and currently has more than 20 airline customers in operation all over the world.
Sandra McDowell, Director of Amaze Communications, comments, “The World Cup zone is an innovative solution that overcomes the many technical issues associated with designing a fully responsive solution for passengers to enjoy inflight.
“We know passengers want to be able to use their phones, tablets and laptops during flights, and in fact the authorities in both Europe and the US have recently relaxed the rules to allow usage from gate to gate. It is all part of the same pattern – people want to be able to use their PEDs in exactly the same way whether they are at home, on the train, in a café, or on a plane. Together with OnAir, our role has been to help respond to passenger demand for increased connectivity.”
François Rodriguez, Director Strategy and Marketing at OnAir, adds, “Our goal is to set the benchmark for inflight infotainment solutions and Amaze is helping us achieve that through its innovative approach, such as with the World Cup zone. The right marketing tools, which Amaze is helping us develop, are important for enhancing the onboard experience and boosting demand for inflight connectivity services. This is a hugely exciting time for OnAir and we’re pleased to have Amaze on board.”
