Social media at the winter Olympics: How did the first day fare?

Salesforce ExactTarget Marketing Cloud has launched a real-time social infographic on Sochi 2014, measuring social conversations around the games.

Key stats from the opening day were:
• 854,226 total mentions about Sochi – 593 mentions a minute
• #Sochi2014 was by far the most used hashtag with 218,002 mentions. Similar hashtags such as #Olympics, #Olympics2014, #WinterOlympics, and #Sochi also ranked within the top 10.
• #SochiProblems (35,289 mentions) continued to trend as arriving journalists and athletes shared images of hotel rooms not being ready, venues still under construction, and odd occurrences in general.
• Figure Skating was the top sport with 60,080 mentions, with Slopestyle in second place (20,451). This is no surprise as they were two of the first events to take place.
• @sochiproblems was the most mentioned user, even beating the @sochi2014 official account (18,818 Mentions compared to @Sochi2014.
