January 25, 2013

Red Bull, SFR and Absolut Vodka are among the top TV advertisers in terms of Shazam tags, according to new data.

Since 2011 media app Shazam has partnered with global brands to make television adverts Shazam-enabled, allowing viewers to interact with adverts and brands by ‘tagging’ them.
By using the Shazam App, viewers could receive additional information about the brand or product, gain access to special offers, enter competitions, and take advantage of social sharing integration.
Shazam-enabled television adverts have featured on many prime-time programming and special televised events such as the SuperBowl in the US, and the final episode of the X-Factor.
Shazam for TV advertising was first launched in the US and is now also available in the UK, Western Europe, Turkey, India, Australia and New Zealand.
As advertisers and marketers increasingly turn to social and digital channels to increase engagement with consumers, the below ’most tagged’ list provides an interesting snapshot of the campaigns that successfully motivated consumers to engage with a brand and participate in a digital call to action using Shazam. Shazam has drawn on this experience in second-screen engagement to share its top tips for integrating the Shazam for TV aspect into ads:
• Start with great content – a good, compelling ad will be more likely to encourage people to tag it (humour always helps)
• Include the Shazam on-screen call-to-action early in the ad, and for at least 10 seconds, so that people know quickly that they can interact with it
• Make it simple to understand why people should interact giving them a clear, compelling call to action
• Leverage your extra content – do you have a rich video content that you can use to extend the engagement with the brand? Special offers?
• Make sure the entire experience is mobile-friendly, including content or actions that might be done at the brand’s websites (e.g., buying the product, getting a quote)
• The larger the nationwide campaign, the better
• Great music in an ad has long been proven to work in advertising, and that’s still the case here with people who use Shazam, who are known music fans
