Online sales of DVDs and CDs surged by 130% in December compared to the same time last year according to eBay company, Shopping.com.
The figures are revealed as high-street DVD and CD retailers Blockbuster and HMV go into administration.
DVDs and CDs were among the top sellers last year for Shopping.com, which posted a record 43% climb in overall sales compared to December 2011.
David McCall, UK Country Manager at Shopping.com, said: “We are very pleased with our strong growth in sales over the festive period, especially given the difficulty other retailers selling similar products have faced.
“With the sharp growth of smartphone and tablet usage, more and more consumers are shopping online, driving growth for internet retailers and putting pressure on retailers that do not have a strong online presence.”
