Microsoft plans Apple TV rival on Xbox

November 26, 2012

Microsoft is working on an Apple TV-style set-top box, providing access to Xbox Live entertainment services and run casual games rather than major releases, according to news reports.

“Multiple sources” who claim to be close to the matter say the Microsoft set-top box will launch in 2013. The technology on board the gadget could even be incorporated into an Xbox TV set, The Verge reports.
The move would put Micrsoosft in competition with Apple TV, using the added advantage of Xbox gaming.
According to reports, Microsoft’s device is going to run on Windows 8 primarily and one of the key features of the system is going to be an ‘always on’ switch, which will allow users to quickly jump into a specific media service or casual game at any time.
The Xbox set top box apparently has a release date scheduled for the 2013 Holiday Season, which could hint of Microsoft’s plans to rock the industry with two major new Xbox branded products at the exact same time.
