Mail Online – the world’s leading online English-language newspaper website – has turned its first ever profit as revenues rose 80% year-on-year, predominantly driven by online advertising sales. Revenues for the quarter were boosted in the UK by the Queen’s Jubilee and Euro 2012 football championship.
Revenues for 2011 reached £16m but this year are expected to rise to nearly £30m. Growth is predicted to remain strong and revenues are forecast to reach £45m in 2013 and £100m by 2017.
ABC figures from the last audit in May 2012 show the website attracted over 5.6m daily unique browsers and nearly 92 million monthly uniques.
Mobile readers make up nearly 25% of the site’s daily users and the Mail Online iPhone and Android apps deliver 220,000 daily users who browse for an average of 24 minutes.
