Google has launched a TV commercial for Google+, emphasising the social network’s ‘circles’ tool allowing users to share info with select groups, and not everyone on their friend lists.
The ad debuted in the US, during the Lions vs. Packers NFL game on Thanksgiving.
The commercial focuses on the importance of “Circles” and how, “in your head you assign everyone these roles, once you step back and get away from that you realize these are the people that were actually there for me.”
Following the launch of Circles, Facebook was forced to introduce a similar feature on its website to keep its 800 million users hooked.
Google touts the human connection in the ad, which comes with Google+, which lets people create video Hangouts with their friends and segregate their friend list into Circles for easy sharing and privacy.
The ad features voice overs of Google+ users who talk about how they can connect easily with certain friends whenever and however they want and not everyone on their friend list.
“It’s not relevant to talk about certain things with certain people, especially my guy friends. I don’t fill them in on every aspect of my life, whereas I might with my girlfriends or my mom or whatever.” a girl says.
The ad ends with Google claiming “Sharing but like real life. That’s a plus.”

I have used Google+ for about 6 weeks – I love the original concept of adding Circles and its a great way to classify all your networking contacts – by friends, family, acquaintances, work etc….also adding/importing new friends is a breeze and you can visit most webpages now and you will see the little Google+ logo under a blog post which you can click to share an interesting story, article etc with your online community – enlighten, empower, enable, engage
