Nearly half of all German web users access online games

In June 2011 a total of 25.2 million German have visited online gaming sites, marking an 8% rise on last year, according to new research.

The data, from comScore, represents how online gaming has now reached 46 percent of German Internet users.
In addition, 14.1 million mobile phone users and played at least one game on their mobile device, comScore found.
Peter Schneider, at ComScore Germany, said: “These results confirm the great potential of online gaming, not only on the PC or laptop, but also on mobile phones and smartphones. Users spend a large share of their online time on gaming portals and the rapidly growing penetration of smartphones, this is certainly a platform that advertisersshould not be ignored.”
Most time was spent on gaming site Bigpoint with 2.4 million visitors staying a total of 7.4 million hours on the site, which corresponds to an average of about 3 hours per user in June.
In second place was the InnoGames GmbH, with just over one million gamers spending a total of 4.1 million hours on the site.

Smartphone games widespread in Germany
Mobile gamers played in Germany total 14.1 million mobile phone users and at least one game on their mobile device (monthly average in Q2 / 2011).
With 38.7 percent of all smartphone users that their phone used to play, the proportion among smartphone users is higher than the average of 25.1 percent.
Nearly identical proportions of cell phone and smart phone users played games that were preinstalled on the device. Not surprisingly, most use the smart phone owners downloaded games (24.8 percent), because this includes the downloading of applications (Apps).
Only about 3 percent of all German Smartphone owners used their browser to play online games directly.
