McDonald’s first brand to use eBay homepage takeover slot

June 27, 2011

McDonald’s will be the first brand to utilise eBay’s new Premium Homepage Takeover ad format, giving the fast-food giant 100% advertising share.

The campaign on eBay, which goes live on the eBay homepage on Sunday 26th June, will be used as a platform to drive awareness of the new limited edition McFlurrys.
The partnership with eBay Advertising will see McDonald’s enjoy 100% advertising share of voice on a one day takeover that will be promoted to eBay UK’s large audience of over 17 million consumers.
The campaign, managed by McDonald’s media agency OMD, will also offer eBay users an opportunity to ‘catch’ the McFlurry Nice Cream Van and win a range of summer prizes including festival tickets, frisbees and beach balls.
Phillip Rinn, Senior Director, Advertising at eBay International comments, “The new homepage takeover advertising opportunity is a high impact spot for brands who want to reach a large and engaged audience. The campaign with McDonald’s is a great example of how eBay Advertising’s partnerships bring new and exciting opportunities for eBay’s shoppers to connect with their favourite brands.”
Simon Short, digital marketing manager at McDonald’s added: “Partnering with eBay Advertising offers McDonald’s a great way to reach our key audience for this seasonal product promotion.”
