‘Hello Boys’: Web users vote for world’s most iconic outdoor advert

April 15, 2011

The Wonderbra poster ‘Hello Boys’ has been named the most iconic outdoor advertisement of all time, as part of a website initiative developed by Kent company MCM Net on behalf of Campaign.

Tonbridge-based MCM Net was given a brief to create a flash site to promote the organisation’s latest competition, ‘The Outdoor Hall of Fame’. The campaign sought to find the best outdoor adverts of the past five decades.
The idea was to encourage website visitors to vote for the best poster adverts that have ever appeared on UK streets. The website championed creativity from the best outdoor advertising of all time and the website’s gallery featured ads from across the last five decades.
MCM Net approached the project in three stages
• A flash site was set up featuring basic information about the campaign, with an invite to agencies to submit adverts for judging.
• The site was then adapted so both visitors and panelists could go on to the site, register, look at the adverts and log 10 votes for their favourites.
• The voting site was then transformed into a winner’s gallery that features the top ten outdoor adverts of all time.
The final line-up was determined by public votes. Campaigns included ‘Silhouette’ for Apple’s iPod and ‘Dumb Animals’ for Greenpeace.
The new website includes a gallery of adverts from every decade since the 1960’s and a slideshow of the top ten most popular outdoor adverts of all time.
Associate online publisher for Haymarket Brand Media, Paula Fox said, ‘We were really pleased with MCM’s work on the design and site build of the Outdoor Hall of Fame. The online product more than delivered to the initial brief: to produce an attractive, user friendly site showcasing the best outdoor creative over the past five decades.’
