French spend 4 hours on social media a month

French Internet users spent over 4 hours on social networking sites during December 2010, with Facebook and Skyrock proving to be the most popular destinations, according to new research.

The data, from comScore, revealed that in France, 37.8 million internet users visited a social networking site and spent on average 4.1 hours on social networking sites during the month.
Delphine Gatignol, France Director of Internet activities of comScore, said: “In just two years, the social networking market has experienced significant changes. While the penetration of social networks in France was one of the lowest in Europe, arose in December 2010 to 84.7%.
“The leader of Facebook deal with French actors is clear: to translate the site into French in 2008 was likely leverage its continuous innovations and therefore allow him to continue to display a high level of commitment of its visitors.”
Facebook attracts 70% of French Internet
Of the 46.9 million French Internet users aged 6 years and older, 37.8 million visiting social networking sites, representing a penetration of over 80%.
Constantly growing and with 32.8 million unique visitors in December 2010, Facebook has confirmed its leading position in the French market for social networks.
It also concentrates the average time spent on the most important category of social networks, namely 4.25 hours more per visitor for the month of December 2010.
The French Skyrock retains its second position in the rankings with 10.8 million unique visitors.
Placed fifth in the standings of social networks with 2.6 million unique visitors, Badoo is in second position in terms of average time spent per visitor at 1.6 hours.
Facebook attracted a mixed population, aged 15 to 44 years.
In terms of composition of audience, the female gender of the two major social networks is significantly higher than the average Internet. Furthermore, Facebook users are older than Skyrock.
While the 15-24 age group represent a larger share of the hearing site Facebook, but those aged 55 and over are nevertheless more than 16% of its audience. Skyrock has a clear affinity with the 15-24 years target of this social network.
