PC search trends: Bing catching Google in UK with 25% market share

October 3, 2017

The Bing Network now accounts for over a quarter (25.1 per cent) of the UK PC searches, catching up with Google, according to the latest figures from comScore.

Within the UK the Bing Network powers 918 million monthly searches and nearly 12 billion searches on a global scale (11.9b) and it is these insights which allow for us to build a more accurate picture of consumers and their nuances every day.

Through its increasing growth, the predictive, intelligent and personal power of Bing is an integral element informing and facilitating marketing strategies and enabling marketers to spark meaningful conversations with their audiences at the right time and place.

Earlier this year, the IAB’s Digital Ad Spend Report revealed digital ad spend grew at its fastest rate for 9 years in the UK – up 17.3 per cent reaching £10.3 billion, with paid-for search growing 15 per cent and now accounting for nearly half (48 per cent) of all digital ad spend. With search continuing to rise and prove an essential element to businesses and consumer’s day to day activities, Bing is unlocking richer insight than ever before, working alongside marketers to see beyond the search term.

Axel Steinman, VP of International Sales EMEA, Bing Advertising, said: “It is with great pride that I can announce the Bing Network now accounts for over a quarter of the UK’s search market. The figures demonstrate Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to search and its ambitions to continue connecting marketers with the right audiences. Our market growth showcases the power of these insights in creating more meaningful conversations, proving Bing really is bigger than you think”.
