Dairy farmers go digital with consumer website

August 17, 2010 by Editor

A new website for UK dairy farmers has launched, in a bid to promote the industry to consumers.

site, at www.thisisdairyfarming.com, includes a number of suprising facts, such as there are more dairy cows in Britain than there are people in Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester put together, and they all have their own passport.
The site includes a ‘virtual farm’, where visitors can ‘fly’ through the different parts of a real dairy farm and see what happens in each area.
Also included is a ‘Fact or Fiction’ feature, which enables visitors to test their knowledge of dairy farming.
A ‘Dairy Farming Facts’ section includes easy-to-understand information about every aspect of dairy farming, from what cows eat and where they sleep, to what farmers do to care for the environment.
The website features photography and video clips to bring dairy farming to life and has been produced by DairyCo, the levy-funded, not-for-profit organisation working on behalf of Britain’s dairy farmers.
DairyCo’s Amanda Ball says: “Our dairy farmers are proud of the work they and their cows do to provide us with the milk and dairy products we enjoy every day. This website is simply about saying ‘here we are, this is what we do’ and explaining the facts in a way that people will understand and find interesting.”
