Stuart Rowe, chief operating officer of Play.com, comments, “We have seen a significant increase in traffic and sales over the past seven days as Britons well and truly get in the Christmas spirit. A combination of bad weather, tube strikes in London and travel chaos throughout the country has also undoubtedly contributed to strong sales as people stay at home and get online to do their shopping.
“However, our data points to Monday 6th December being the absolute peak in Christmas shopping as the vast majority of workers will have banked their pay cheques and look to get as much of their present buying done as possible. We also know that many people choose to shop online while they are at work and so as Britain’s workers get back to their desks on Monday, we expect a spike in sales.”
