Pinterest makes pins more shoppable with real-time pricing and upselling

October 17, 2018

Social scrapbook platform Pinterest is announcing a raft of changes to make it easier for people to shop on its website and mobile app, including real-time pricing and recommendations.

Pinterest is making hundreds of millions of Pins shoppable with dynamic pricing and stock information. Users can see a shopping tag icon which will link directly to the product page on the retailer’s site, so you can buy in a few clicks.

New Product Pins are discoverable throughout Pinterest and appear in home feed, search, and recommendations like Related Pins.

Pinterest has been testing the new Product Pins, and they perform much better than Buyable Pins, and so it is moving the older Buyable Pin format to Product Pins. Pinterest has already seen a 40% monthly increase in clicks to retailers.

To discover style ideas related to Pins that have been saved, users can click the recently launched “more ideas” tab above any of their boards or sections, where you’ll get recommendations based on your taste and style, and can save in a quick tap.

This is an evolution of Pinterest’s work to make Pinterest more shoppable. Pinterest thinks that bringing together an environment where people come wanting to engage with brands, with personalised recommendations and easy discovery, is the best way to help shoppers and retailers find value.
