Facebook Live hosts first interactive murder mystery

October 17, 2016

Facebook viewers tuned into an hour long interactive murder mystery last week, teaming up to solve the crime in real time via social media in a promotion for TV channel Alibi.

The game, called Framed, was a spin on traditional murder mystery events, but this time, it took crowd-sourced teamwork to crack the case.

It was created by UK crime drama channel Alibi and was hosted at 8pm on 13th October on Alibi’s Facebook page.

The story began with a security guard locked in an art exhibit with a dead body, the murder weapon and a series of clues to set the game afoot.

The audience will have to work out exactly how to solve the murder in the allotted time, with the protagonist’s choices decided by realtime viewer votes.

Framed was written by David Varela, who says: “Escape room experiences are usually designed for small groups, so creating a story on this scale meant taking the game to another level. Allowing thousands of people to take part at once should produce really exciting results, and we’re looking forward to some heated arguments about the different choices our character can make.”

The project also builds upon an idea the team tested out in the summer, using the #Twurder hashtag to allow users to shape a murder mystery story.
