Yahoo expands beyond London with UK regional agency boss

September 28, 2016

Yahoo has appointed James Attwater in the new role of Regional Agency Partner to focus on growing Yahoo’s advertising business in key cities outside London.

With regional agencies accounting for 15% of UK ad spend, this appointment signals Yahoo’s increased focus on managing and developing relationships in key cities outside of London.

James Attwater will be responsible for managing and developing relationships with Manchester’s leading media agencies, as well as major agencies based in Leeds, Edinburgh, and Birmingham. Attwater will lead Yahoo’s go-to-market regional strategy for its two key advertising platforms, Yahoo Gemini for native advertising and BrightRoll for programmatic.

He will additionally support the delivery of content marketing solutions on Tumblr, working with the in-house content solutions team, Yahoo Storytellers.

Attwater has extensive media sales experience gained both at major media brands and digital start-ups. Most recently he was Regional Sales Manager for mobile and location-based marketing company xAd where he launched their dedicated regional presence in the North.

Prior to this, he was Regional Sales Director for advertising intelligence and digital media provider Exponential Interactive, after having held account management roles at Bauer Media, Global Radio, and News UK.

Nigel Clarkson, UK MD, Yahoo said: “We’re thrilled to be getting back into the regional marketplace with the appointment of James in this new role. Regional agencies account for 15% of UK ad spend and they are thriving markets. With our strong proposition in data, content and technology, we absolutely should be there working alongside them to help grow their digital businesses. Whenever I visit the regional agencies, there is a clear entrepreneurial spirit of passionate, driven people and we can’t wait to work more closely with them again.”

James Attwater, Regional Agency Partner, Yahoo UK, adds: “Yahoo’s strength as a digital brand combining content, data and technology is impressive. The breadth and depth of Yahoo data sources provide a unique ability to have a 360 view of a consumer. As the regional marketplace continues to grow, I look forward to building deeper relationships through Yahoo platforms helping to facilitate maximum return on investment for clients.”
