World Cup social media review: Best influencers, posts and sponsors

The last ball has been kicked, the champions have been crowned and legends have been immortalised, but, more importantly, which player gained the most followers on Instagram? This infographic from Socialbakers looks back at the biggest social media buzz of the tournament.

Many players had stellar tournaments, but in terms of social media, Harry Kane was once again a standout performer. Kane’s Instagram, which now has over 6 M followers, grew by almost 1.28 M users over the course of the World Cup.

Other major winners include, France who saw its Facebook audience grow more than 7% over the course of the World Cup with a significant spike on the day of the final, putting them at an audience size of more than 5.98 M.
