Tinder becomes top paid app for first time

September 5, 2017

Tinder has become the top-grossing app in Apple’s online shop, topping the likes of Netflix, Pandora and hit mobile games like ‘Clash Royale.’

Tinder is now the top money-making app at the App Store, according to rankings posted online by market data firm App Annie on Friday.

Tinder, which made its debut five years ago, lets people swipe left or right on profiles to indicate those that they like as possible date partners.

The dating application’s ascension to the top came quickly after it announced this week the worldwide roll-out of a new ‘Gold’ service with features including the ability of subscribers to see who out there has ‘liked’ them.

The chart measures the top earning apps each day and weighs them accordingly. On top of this, App Annie has shared data showing that the app has been in the top 15 earners for the whole of the year on account of its 2015 service, Tinder Plus providing a solid revenue stream.

While Plus allows users to rewind their swipes to take a second opinion on prospective partners, Gold offers more premium features such as letting users immediately match and message, unlimited likes, one profile boost and five super likes each day, all vital parts of the app’s ecosystem.

Recently, the service became available on desktop, opening up to a whole new userbase on a second platform.
