Video viral of the week: Very brings back Fresh Prince with shoppable YouTube ad

August 5, 2015

Very has created a ‘shoppable’ YouTube video ads in the UK, featuring Rizzle Kicks singing a cover of ‘Summertime’. See why its our video viral of the week below.

The track was originally sung by DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith in the guise of the The Fresh Prince in 1991.

In the new version, the Rizzle Kicks duo are transported back to the 1990s, singing in Greenwich Park, sporting throwback fashion and hanging out with Jazzy Jeff himself.

The video is entirely shoppable, with all items available to purchase direct from the video, from the 90’s fashion collection to the homeware and picnic goods.

Available exclusively to download, the track to the video is available to the first 10,000 music fans who visit the Very site. The full-length music video can be viewed on the Very website and on Very’s YouTube channel.

Rizzle Kicks commented: “DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith are absolute legends. To be able to work on this old-school classic and put our stamp on it, was a dream come true. Working with DJ Jazzy Jeff, and bringing the video up-to-date with Very.co.uk has been great. The 90’s vibe was wicked and wearing everything from the jazzy shirts, vintage t-shirts and Air Max trainers was perfect for us – Summertime rules.”

Kenyatte Nelson, Marketing Director at Very.co.uk comments:“We’re so excited to work with Rizzle Kicks and the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff to bring “Summertime” to the UK for 2015. We wanted to bring a classic summer hit bang up-to-date, and in making a fully shoppable, stylish music video to accompany it, we think we did it justice. In remaking this track, we hope to bring back amazing memories of bygone summers and inspire many more for future generations.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff commented: “Every summer I’m proud to hear “Summertime” being played on the airwaves and at summer parties around the world. The original video was so much fun for Will and I to shoot, with all our friends, having one big party. “Summertime” represents a very important time in my life and career, so to have the opportunity to relive it with Rizzle Kicks was awesome – I can’t wait to hear the UK’s reaction to this track, fresh once again.”

The ad, created by Havas SE Cake and Universal Universal Music Group, comes after Google added shoppable ads to its existing range of YouTube ad products, letting retailers get more direct value from their video ads.
