'Unsung hero' WordPress founder Mike Little honoured at SAScon

May 17, 2013

A modest man from Stockport who co-founded the website content management system WordPress is to be honoured for his outstanding contribution to digital media.

While Mike Little has remained out of the limelight, his invention is arguably on a similar level to the work of Sir Tim Berners Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web.
Mike’s innovation now underpins 64 million websites worldwide – to put that in perspective that is 19 per cent of all sites on the web.
To recognise his achievements, Mike will be presented with the SAScon Outstanding Contribution to Digital Award on 6-7 June 2013 at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School.
The award acknowledges Mike’s instrumental role in setting up and developing the first version of WordPress. Teaming up with Texas-born Matt Mullenweg in 2003, the pair created the blogging platform, which has now gone on to become the most popular content management system in use on the internet.
With over 20 years’ experience in software development, Mike now runs his own web development and consultancy company, zed1, and he continues to inspire and teach others through WordPress training sessions and as a published author.
Richard Gregory, one of SAScon’s founders, said: “Mike is, without a doubt, one of the digital industry’s unsung heroes. Unlike co-founder, Matt Mullenweg, who became instantly famous, Mike has lived a life of relative anonymity. Nevertheless, his ground breaking work on WordPress and self-taught digital expertise is certainly to be admired and respected. While Mike still remains humble about his achievements, he has helped to change the face of online marketing. There isn’t a single digital marketing agency that hasn’t made generated income by building WordPress websites, and we are honoured to be able to recognise him with this award.”
SAScon is one of the UK’s leading search marketing events, aimed at client and agency side search, analytics and social media specialists.
Early bird tickets are on sale now via the
SAScon website, sascon.co.uk.
