Groupon strikes mobile coupon deal with T-Mobile-owner

January 11, 2012

German telecom operator Deutsche Telekom and the daily deals company Groupon have struck a deal to offer its European mobile customers coupons.

As per the alliance, Groupon’s coupons will be made available to Deutsche Telekom’s mobile customers (including T-Mobile customers in the UK) across Europe beginning in the first half of 2012.
Deutsche Telekom, Senior Vice President Business Development Heikki Makijarvi said Groupon is one of the global leaders in the online and mobile commerce business. “Our partnership with Groupon allows us to strengthen our stake in this rapidly expanding and exciting new market segment, while diversifying our portfolio and accelerating our time to market for innovative products and services at the same time,” said Makijarvi.
This is the first time that Groupon would partner with a multi-national telecom provider to distribute its products and services, it was revealed.
