German music download service hits million mark

The service was launched 11 October 2003 and hit the milestone of 1 million downloads per month in December last year, with a total of 4 million downloads through 2004.

Musicload currently has a total of 450,000 tracks available for download on its system and charges between E0.99 to E1.59 for a single track or E9.95 for an album.

To celebrate, the company is inviting its millionth customer to be a guest at this year's Echo music awards ceremony, to be held in Berlin 2 April. This will also be the first year that the awards recognise the digital download sector, with Musicload sponsoring the Download Echo award.
