Freeserve first to jingle its bells

The Christmas channel aims to provide web users with a one-stop shop for their gift-buying requirements and features a range of high street brands including Argos, Boots, Marks & Spencer and Dixons.

With just two and a half months to go, the ISP is urging consumers to do their shopping online to "beat the Christmas rush on the high street".

It has added search tools to the channel to help users find gifts, or, they can browse three channels: 'Him', 'Her' and 'The Kids', with products divided into various tiers of pricing.

A 'Favourite Stores' section promotes gifts available on the high street in popular stores and Freeserve will from next week invite users to create a wishlist by "emailing Santa". The ISP will boost awareness of the channel with a viral game where consumers can play to win prizes on a daily basis.

Other retailers the will feature on the channel include johnlewis.com, CD WOW, GadgetShop and PC World.

Last year the IMRG reported that six out of ten UK web surfers found their way onto an e-commerce site during the Christmas trading period, equivalent to almost 13 million consumers. Argos was the most popular UK-based e-tailer last attracting 2.5 million unique visitors in December.
