The company will manage the web hosting requirement for s1now, the online division of publishing group SMG, established in June 2000. The agreement will last for the next three years and is worth some £250,000 to iomart.

SMG, which was purchased for £216m by Newsquest in April, publishes The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times, plus 11 consumer and business magazines and a number of websites.

S1now, the online unit, operates the online versions of SMG's newspapers and other sites, including s1jobs.com, s1homes.com and s1play.com, which together generate a claimed 16 million page impressions per month.

S1now MD Mark Smith, who described the company as "Scotland's most successful online business", said iomart beat a number of the larger UK hosting service providers to the contract.

Iomart last month revealed that sales of its core email and web security product - called NetIntelligence - had been "disappointing" but nevertheless expects to reach profitability by the end of the current financial year.

The company is known to be on the look-out for acquisitions and opportunities to consolidate. It held £3.6m in cash at the end of May.
