Despite the success of Apple's iTunes, some artists are refusing to use the online music site as a distribution platform for their songs. Bands including Metallica and The Red Hot Chili Peppers have resisted the urge to be part of the new service, which sold five million songs over the internet just eight weeks after it first launched. A spokesman told Reuters that the bands did "not want to contribute to the demise of the album format", given that Apple is apparently refusing to sell albums via iTunes unless artists let them sell individual album tracks.
