TxtOrder delivers boost to m-commerce

The SMS-focused business has today unveiled its TxtOrder service following a two-month trial with companies including Barclaycard, Yamaha, Phones4U and Next.

TxtOrder, the brainchild of founder Andrew Dixon, enables consumers to receive information on advertised products by text and email, simply by sending a text message with a unique promotional code that will be featured in product advertisements.

Users of the service can purchase items directly, by adding their own TxtOrder password to a text message, making it far easier and more practical for commuters to buy products after viewing an advertisement.

Dixon said: "I was sitting on the train one day and saw an ad for a case of wine and wanted to buy one. Being on a crowded train there was no way I was going to read out my credit card details and address over the phone.

"I meant to do it when I got home but inevitably forgot. It then dawned on me that if I could have sent an immediate request by text, that retailer would have secured the purchase straight away."

The TxtOrder service has been developed in conjunction with Barclaycard Merchant Services, enabling users to pay by Visa, Mastercard or Switch via what the company claims to be "the first secure mobile payment service of its kind in the world".

Companies that want to make use of the m-commerce system are charged from £495 to register plus a management fee of £20 per month, as well as up to 75p per transaction.
