Ministry of Sound revamps website to reflect mutimedia transformation

Ministry of Sound recently revamped its website with uSkinned to reflect its evolution from an iconic dance venue to a multimedia hub. This case study looks at how the update boosted conversion rates while freeing up time for staff.

Since 1991 Ministry of Sound has been at the centre of the UK music scene, and is renowned worldwide for its musical vision. What started out as a nightclub in a derelict bus garage in South London, is now a multimedia entertainment business with nightclubs, worldwide events, music publishing business and fitness studios.

Ministry of Sound is a global household name, however, until recently its online presence did not match its iconic status.

To create an online presence which matched its musical vision Barney Blackhurst, Ministry of Sound’s senior digital product manager, knew they needed to create a high impact online identity that was interactive and engaging, backed up by a powerful CMS that was easy to update and manage for a variety of users.

Barney explains: “Our previous CMS system was not giving us the performance or functionality we needed as a dynamic, fast growing business. We met with the founder of Umbraco and we knew immediately that it was the CMS that was right for us. However, we needed a partner to help us implement it. After extensive research we came across uSkinned and were blown away by the flexibility of the “off the shelf” Umbraco templates they provide.

“After creating a number of websites in-house using uSkinned Umbraco Themes we decided to commission uSkinned to create a completely bespoke website for our Club website.

“uSkinned were highly flexible in their approach and the whole process was as smooth as it could ever be. We’ve improved our conversion rate, reduced the time spent in the CMS and our customers are more engaged with our website. I can’t thank them enough for all their hard work.

“Since December 2016 we have rolled out six sites, a mix of template and bespoke work developed by uSkinned and we have just recently asked them to develop sites for our sister club in Australia. The speed and functionality of the new sites is just amazing… I can honestly say it’s the best CMS I have ever used. It is also very easy to update and add pages… it’s all done in-house without the need for developers or any knowledge of coding.”

uSkinned, which currently has customers in over 65 countries, is the brainchild of Glasgow-based developers Marc Love and Paul Daly. uSkinned provides the first ever premium Umbraco starter kits aimed at bringing Umbraco to a wider audience.

Umbraco is already one of the world’s most powerful content management systems, and is used extensively by large web design and development houses around the globe. It offers everything that site owners, content managers, designers, and developers need to create and maintain contemporary sites of the highest quality. However, it is still relatively unknown outside of this digital agency bubble.

Paul Daly, co-founder of uSkinned, comments: “It’s our belief that Umbraco is easily the best content management system in the world, however, it is relatively unknown outside of the digital agency world. Through our uSkinned Starter Kits, we want to change this.”
