Snapchat rolls out shoppable ads: Target and Lancôme first brands to sign up

Snapchat has begun rolling out shoppable ads, with Target and Lancôme among the first brands to take up the format.

The first ads will appear on Cosmopolitan’s Snapchat Discover channel, and will take the form of a 10-second call-to-action spot.

Once they appear, viewers can either swipe up for more product info or down to go straight to a mobile shopping page.

The ads will appear between Cosmo’s article and video content. The new platform means that users don’t have to exit the platform to shop.

Viewers can to shop Lancome’s new Juicy Shaker lip oil with just a swipe, and without leaving Snapchat (see sample above). Meanwhile, Target’s ad pulls up the site’s mobile page with links to products featured in the ad.

Snapchat now claims that its users watch 10 billion videos every day, and 60%of its daily active users creating content every day.

This week the messaging app also inked a deal with NBC to broadcast clips from the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
