World’s first ‘social star’ awards launched on YouTube

A new awards show celebrating the stars of social media is launching today, letting fans from around the world watch it ‘live’ on YouTube.

The inaugural Social Star Awards take place at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore, hosted by Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning actor, Jeremy Piven, alongside co-host Jessica Alba.
The awards will celebrate the biggest, most talked about global stars on social media from the world of film, music, TV, sport and an array of other high profile categories.
The awards event will be one of the glitziest ceremonies that Singapore has played host to, with guests including Aerosmith, CeeLo Green, PSY, Carly Rae Jepsen, Eric Benet & Blush as well as stars from the world of Social Media such as Tummy Talk, Marquese Scott, Wrecking Crew and Pewdiepie.
The live show will hand out awards for “Most Popular Actor”, “Music Group”, “Solo Artist”, “Sports Team”, “Film” and the biggest award of the night, “THE ALMIGHTY” for the most popular person in social media. The event will be a culmination of 24 hours of live awards, which will begin online on Wednesday 22nd May.
Over 280 awards will be awarded from midnight on the 22nd of May, with each award being carefully scheduled to reflect time difference across the globe. Each hour, ’Count Star’ Starcount’s very own, social media star, will appear on the Starcount channel with a round-up of the big names who have scooped the very first social media awards, before the live show begins at 9pm (Singapore Time) – 2pm in the UK. Fans watching online will also have the option throughout the award ceremony to join Google Hangouts live from the awards themselves where they will be given the unique opportunity to ask some of our A list celebrity guests questions and listen into exclusive chat.
Paul Morrison and Drew Thomson, Joint CEOs of Starcount said, ‘We are incredibly excited to be streaming our inaugural awards across the globe. As the world’s first social media awards it seems only fitting that we partner with YouTube and Google to bring the unique content that our event will generate to social media fans everywhere.
Giving fans access to their heroes via Google Hangouts during the awards is an award first and we are incredibly proud to be pioneering this activity at the Social Star Awards.’
