AOL buys technology review site Gdgt

AOL has bought technology product review site gdgt, as the internet media firm looks to expand its content offerings and shopping data.

Both gdgt and AOL confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch, another website now owned by AOL.
In a blog post, Gdgt said: “At AOL, gdgt will only continue to grow and evolve as the best premium destination for purchase intelligence, recommendations, user reviews, shopping data, and community-driven content about personal technology.”
Launched in 2009, Gdgt was founded by the co-founder and former editor-in-chief of Engadget Peter Rojas, alongside Editor Ryan Block.
‘We got to talking further and realized that gdgt, its team, its technology, and perhaps most importantly its DNA, were a natural fit for AOL’s world-class lineup of tech sites,” Block wrote in the blog post announcing the news. “Well, one thing led to another, and here we are.”
Terms of the deal were undisclosed, but TechCrunch reports that the deal was in the “high” seven figures and may lead to Block becoming head of product for AOL’s tech media.
