A new diet plan… for your email

Email expert Dr Monica Seeley has launched a ‘5-day diet plan’ aimed at companies looking to reduce the weight of their corporate inboxes.

To tie-in with an initiative set up in the US, the annual ‘Clean Out Your Inbox Week’, from 24th to 28th January 2011, Dr Seeley will provide a step-by-step, daily guide to encourage businesses to ‘get fit’ by changing their email culture in the coming year.
Email addiction is a significant contributor to email overload and stress.
A recent survey (of just under 600 business executives) revealed that on Christmas Day, 47% logged in. During the week a new Email Addiction self-assessment tool will be launched.
Dr Seeley said: “Email overload comes at a great cost to productivity, not only lost time and money, but also stress and a distortion of the work-life balance. Email habits, like any other, are difficult to change, which is why I have put together this 5-day fitness plan.
“Businesses will be able to ‘weigh-in’ on day one using my Cost of Email Misuse Calculator and set their email fitness goals for the week. Day two will involve an email detox, sifting through unneeded correspondence, ready to continue with a clean slate.
“On the third day, I’ll be providing tips and hints for how businesses can ‘reduce the junk’ by addressing the amount of emails sent out and what those messages generate in return, unnecessarily clogging up the inbox. Day four looks at email etiquette and ‘dress code’, to enable employers and their employees to ‘dress to impress’. Finally on day five, businesses can re-weigh and learn how to stay slim throughout the year.”
Dr Seeley’s complete email diet plan will be available on her blog, http://blog.mesmo.co.uk/, starting Monday 24th January 2011.
