Daily Telegraph first to sign up for Associated Press video hub

The Associated Press (AP) has launched its live video news service ‘AP Video Hub’, with The Daily Telegraph becoming one of the first publishers to use the service.

AP Video hub launched in beta last April and is designed to meet the increased demand for video news from a growing segment of customers – digital publishers.
The 24/7 live news stream allows access to breaking news events as they happen, along with the ability to book and schedule live coverage of planned news events on an ad-hoc basis.
As one of the first customers, Telegraph Media Group’s (TMG) existing three-camera studio will now be able to stream directly to the web as a story breaks. Backed with a series of new content deals, this will give Telegraph digital users and subscribers access to a huge number of unfolding live events, worldwide.
New facilities include a permanent circuit from BT Tower and feeds from the Associated Press. A backpack device allowing high quality live video to be sent over 3G networks will allow Telegraph journalists to follow the story on the ground. Whether it’s the US Presidential race, British party politics, or unfolding UK news – TMG will be able to bring customers the details first.
James Weeks, Head of Video, TMG, said: “Digital consumers expect a first class video service, and The Telegraph is leading the field. We’ve been quick to recognise the opportunities that new technology presents. Now, we can follow developing stories like never before. The changes we have made to our studio will enable us to augment live video with expert analysis and informed opinion from the finest team of journalists and commentators in the business.”
As part of this strategy, TMG is using AP Video Hub for easy online access to AP’s live and broadcast quality world news, entertainment, sport and lifestyles video, which will be used on The Telegraph.
Sue Brooks, Director of Video Business Transformation, AP said: “Since launching AP Video Hub in April we have been really pleased with the interest from news centric websites looking to bolster their video content online. Video news is no longer the sole preserve of terrestrial and satellite broadcasters and AP Video Hub addresses this with an offering tailored to the way news organisations like the Telegraph are using video content. We are delighted the Telegraph has chosen AP as a supplier for video news”.
In addition to offering the new live feature, AP Video Hub gives access to AP’s broadcast-quality world news, entertainment, SNTV (sport) and lifestyle video.
