Primark dampens ‘transactional website’ rumours

Discount fashion giant Primark has denied reports that it is planning to launch a transactional website.

Marketing magazine reported yesterday that the retailer had put out a tender for a digital agency to build its first ecommerce site, which would launch in 2012.
However, a Primark spokesman said it had no plans to launch a transactional website and no tender had gone out.
Owned by Associated British Foods, Primark remains one of the few big fashion players which doesn’t sell goods online.
Instead, the firm is concentrating on selling via high street stores, and has expanded rapidly on the ground with 220 stores in Europe.
The online retail market was worth £58.8bn in the UK last year according to the IMRG.
