Getlost.co.uk? Sedo reveals most bizarre domain name sales of the year

Domain name firm Sedo, has compiled lists of the most eccentric sales that have passed through its books this year.

The findings are the result of extensive research into Sedo’s archives to identify the longest and most bizarre co.uk domain names that have been sold.
www.fancy-dress-costumes-masks-balloons-wigs.co.uk, www.discount-magazine-subscription.co.uk and www.independentfinancialadviser.co.uk rank as some of the longest domain names sold, while www.horsesforcourses.co.uk, www.get-lost.co.uk, www.hokeypokey.co.uk, and www.chillax.co.uk stand out as some of the more bizarre.
The findings follow from the news that Sedo successfully brokered the sale of the world’s most valuable domain name, sex.com this week for a record $13 million and with top domains such as poker.org and credit.fr selling for £600,045 and £521,112 respectively, building an online domain name portfolio can be just as profitable as its bricks and motor counterpart.
Nora Nanayakkara, Director of Business Development at Sedo comments: “Domain names are a great way of anchoring your digital presence online. Whether you use them to host a personal or business website or to trade on keyword domains, they are an excellent way of establishing and maintaining a brand’s presence online.
“Our review of the lighter side of domain name sales demonstrates that there really is a domain name for everything and shows that even relatively long domains can be a solid investment for business and budding entrepreneurs alike due principally to their value as keywords in search engine marketing.”
