EE takes on Go-Pro with ‘world’s first 4G action camera’

EE is set to launch its own-brand action camera with built-in 4G connectivity, the mobile network looks toe xpand further into its own devices.

The 4GEE Action Cam lets users stream HD footage straight to the internet without the need for a smartphone or computer.

It is set to rival the popular GoPro wearables, currently the best selling action camera brand.

However, EE’s product will be the first to feature internet broadcasting as standard. Specs wise, it also boasts a 13-megapixel camera, 64GB of internal memory, and a wrist control monitor to make it easier to stop and start filming and view what is being captured.

EE chief executive, Olaf Swantee, said: “We understand our customers not only want superfast coverage, they want products that give them the very best experiences, coupled with the most innovative and exciting ways in which to share them.”

“We decided to develop it ourselves because there was no 4G camera product. We predict that we will sell as many connected devices as smartphones in 2017.”

Industry experts have suggested the Action Cam may be a niche product, but it could appeal to a young adults who want to share their own photos and videos in an instant. GoPro’s own products have been popular and the firm shifted more than 5.2 million cameras last year.

EE’s new device will be available next week and can be purchased on pay-as-you-go and shared data plans.
