The findings from market research firms StatCounter and Net Applications, found Chrome is on track to challenge Microsoft’s Internet Explorer as the world’s most popular browser.
The study found that Chrome had a 25.69 per cent share of the global browser market in November, compared to 25.23 per cent for Firefox. Internet Explorer enjoyed a 40.63 per cent market share.
‘We can look forward to a fascinating battle between Microsoft and Google as the pace of growth of Chrome suggests that it will become a real rival to Internet Explorer globally,’ Aodhan Cullen, chief executive of StatCounter, said in a statement.
Google introduced Chrome in 2008 and is the only major browser to experience rapid growth, largely thanks to its reputation for superior speed and stability. In November 2009, it held just 4.66 per cent of the global browser market.
